Poker Strategy: Only Play Strong Hands
When you play pokern, it can be tempting to try your luck and play a crummy hand, and if you want to throw away a blind or two, that’s fine, but don’t make a habit of it.
If you play to win, you want to play hands that’ll win (that should be an easy one). Play patient and keep an eye out for the pocket hand that’s likely to bring you some dough.
A good hand depends on a lot of things, but there are a few things to think about playing:
Faces-Pocket faces are usually a decent starting poker hand, even if they aren’t paired. If you catch just one of them on the flop, at least you’ll be sitting on a high pair with a decent kicker. I’ll play these guys from any position.
Pocket Pairs-These guys can be a little tricky-Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, maybe even pocket tens, go for it. Once you start getting into the nines and lower, however, it’s not looking so hot. With pocket nines, any higher card on the flop represents a higher pair. Still, the potential for trips or a full house is tempting, so take note of your position. If you’re one of the last to act, it just might be worth the risk.
